Mulberries are Here!

mulberry tree

Yesterday we went hunting for mulberries.

I saw a few trees with heavy limbs as I was walking to the market and I could not resist poking around the neighborhood looking for more. Jon and I went out on our bikes and came across a few spots with a lot to offer. There are a myriad of uses for mulberries; syrups, sorbet, baked goods, jam, amongst others. I think I will turn the first batch into a jam and head out with the kids today to replenish my supply.

I’ve been told that one can make tea from the leaves, but I need to research this a bit more before I try something that may kill us. My next project is making a mulberry liqueur, as soon as I can find a good recipe for it. In the meantime, with as many berries as there are to pick, I think we will be eating mulberries for quite some time.
